We want to raise $1 million to eradicate mice from New Zealand’s Antipodes Islands. Gareth & Jo are going to match public contributions dollar for dollar.

The Antipodes Islands are our ecological treasures that lie 800km southeast of Bluff, they are the only home for the Antipodes Island snipe and the Antipodes Island parakeet. Lots of other seabirds use these islands as life-rafts in the Southern Ocean, to breed, feed or just rest. But we have left mice on them.

Mice, the only pest on the islands, eat the eggs and chicks of seabirds. Mice also eat huge numbers of insects and the seeds of plants that are critical to the health of the islands and a food source for the native species.
