Antarctica New Zealand

Antarctica New Zealand is the Crown Entity responsible for developing, managing and executing New Zealand Government activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, in particular the Ross Dependency. Antarctica New Zealand manages Scott Base, New Zealand’s Antarctic research station. Key activities include supporting scientific research, conserving the intrinsic values of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean and raising public awareness of the international significance of the continent.

National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA)

NIWA is a Crown Research Institute whose purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand's aquatic resources and environments, provide understanding of climate and atmosphere, and increase resilience to climate hazards to improve the safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders. They are experts in oceans, climate, marine biodiversity and fisheries, and will bring a lot of knowledge and experience on Subantarctic wildlife, the dynamics of the Southern Ocean, Antarctic climate and atmosphere, and Antarctic fisheries and ecosystems.

Victoria University – Antarctic Research Centre

The ARC mission is to improve understanding of Antarctic climate history and processes and their influence on the global climate system, especially New Zealand and the SW Pacific region. We believe this field provides exciting opportunities and challenges attractive to young researchers, and is needed to provide a sound basis for international debate and policy development on global change issues.

Department of Conservation

The Department of Conservation's challenge is to manage natural and historic heritage assets for the greatest benefit and enjoyment of all New Zealanders, by conserving, advocating and promoting natural and historic heritage so that its values are passed on undiminished to future generations. DOC has particular interest in the biodiversity of the Sub-Antarctic Islands and threats putting this at risk.

Otago University

The University of Otago, founded in 1869 by an ordinance of the Otago Provincial Council, is New Zealand’s oldest university. The new University was given 100,000 acres of pastoral land as an endowment and authorised to grant degrees in Arts, Medicine, Law and Music.
